Looking for the best Flying-type Pokémon to add to your team? From classics like Charizard to Legendaries like Yveltal and Lugia, these winged beasts can scare the competition away.

While the words ‘Flying-type Pokémon’ may immediately bring to mind weak early-game creatures like Pidgeot and Fletchling, some of the strongest Pokémon of all time actually fall into this category.

There are classic powerhouses like Dragonite and Charizard, as well as an incredible number of strong legendaries ranging from the Kanto bird trio to fan favorites Rayquaza, Yveltal, and Landorus.

To help you decide which ones to catch and level up, we’ve rounded up 10 of the best Flying-type Pokémon below, with a mix of more common legendaries and creatures to suit everyone’s needs.

10. Corviknight

orviknight

Corviknight

The most recent addition to this list is Corviknight from Sword and Shield. While his stats might not seem that impressive at first glance, his stamina is pretty decent and a steel/flying type gives him a lot of stamina with only two weaknesses, fire and electric, making him very hard to take down.

Corviknight has a solid move pool with options like Breath to boost HP and Bulk to increase its power. Elsewhere, the signature ability Shell Reflex reflects any stat-lowering moves or abilities on the user, while Pressure can easily strip PP from your opponent’s strongest moves.

9. Charizard

Charizard

You may have expected to see Charizard higher up our list, and if nostalgia or pop culture icon status were the only determining factors, then it would absolutely be number one. But in the years since the release of Red and Blue, it’s hard to deny that Charizard has been surpassed by newer generations. It still has its good points, obviously, but it is not the best option.

8. Togekiss

Togekiss

No matter what game you’re playing, be it Arceus Legends or Pokémon Go, there’s always a place on your team for the Fairy/Flying-type Togekiss. It is a well-known dragon-buster with several useful resistances and immunity to Dragon- and Ground-type attacks.

Togekiss’ standout stat is Special Attack, which sits nicely at 120 and allows it to become a powerhouse on any team.

7. Dragonite, one of the best Flying and Dragon-type Pokémon

Dragonite

Dragonite

Dragonite is one of the most iconic pseudo-legendaries out there, dating back to the first generation Kanto region. If it’s not busy dominating as a Dragon-Type, it’s taking the Flying-Type Pokémon by storm, with moves like Gale, Flying, and Air Slash thanks to its stats of 134 Attack and 100 Special Attack.

6. Salamis

The second pseudo-legendary on our list is Salamence, and a quick look at his stats will tell you why; He has a solid attack of 125 and a special attack of 110, which combined with a speed of 100 will mean that he can move faster than many of his opponents to dish out massive damage.

5. Ho Oh

Ho-Oh will be instantly recognizable to anyone who has been playing Pokémon since the early days. The legendary Pokemon Gold design remains a reliable choice whether you’re looking for a Flying-type or Fire-type powerhouse, with 130 Attack stats and 110 Special Attack stats to back it up.

They are best used with STAB attacks like Daring Bird and Flare, while moves like Earthquake and Lightning give it some unexpected coverage options. It also has stamina power, with 154 Special Defense and 106 HP. Watch out for Rock-type attacks, and Ho-Oh can fly.

4. landorus

All members of the Forces of Nature squad are part Flying-types and all are very good, which makes picking just one of them a bit difficult, but we went with Landorus because it has higher total stats than the rest. of the group -600 against 580- and incredible versatility.

He has two very good immunities, Ground and Electric, and only two weaknesses.

3. Lugia

Lugia has the highest total stats (combined) of any Flying-type Pokémon, so it shouldn’t be too surprising to see it ranked so highly on our list. With 106 HP, 130 Defense, and a whopping 154 Special Defense, this Legendary tank is pretty special.

Yveltal is known as the ‘Destruction Pokémon’ in the Pokédex and it more than lives up to that name. The 131 Attack and 131 Special Attack stats mean this creature can deal a lot of devastating damage, while 126 HP and decent defense give it solid bulk.

1.Rayquaza

Rayquaza has long been considered one of the best Pokemon of all time. It has an amazing design, it was the first Pokémon that could Mega Evolve in the franchise, and it was powerful enough to put Groudon and Kyogre in their place. We can’t think of a better one to dominate the ranking of the best Flying-Type Pokémon.

Just one look at his stats to realize why Rayquaza is so popular: 150 Attack and 150 Special Attack mean he can excel with both physical and special moves, and he has attacks to back him up, like the excellent signature move Draco Ascent.

Things get even more impressive when Rayquaza Mega Evolves, as those Attack and Special Attack stats are increased to 180(!) each. Given all of this, it won’t surprise you to learn that this Legendary is also at the top of our list of best Dragon types.
