Will there be The Incredibles 3?

Pixar’s “The Incredibles” is one of those movies where the name says everything you need to know at first.

With its impressive 97 percent fresh Tomatometer rating on Rotten Tomatoes, the animated story of the everyday struggles of the super-powered Parr family and the lives of superheroes remains one of the most critically acclaimed superhero movies.

According to Box Office Mojo, its worldwide gross of over $630 million against a $92 million budget was also a pretty good feat.

However, despite the fact that the 2004 film ended with a rather cheeky sequel, it was 14 years before “The Incredibles 2” materialized.

With its 93 percent Tomatometer rating (via Rotten Tomatoes ) and a worldwide gross of $1.24 billion (per Box Office Mojo ), the sequel made it abundantly clear that it was worth the wait and that the world is still invested in the franchise.

As such, it seems incredibly likely that a third film in the Pixar franchise will be in the cards at some point.

So when can you expect “The Incredibles 3” to drop – will there be one in the first place?

The Incredibles 3 could happen

As “The Incredibles” and “Incredibles 2” director Brad Bird and producer John Walker told Entertainment Weekly in 2018, nothing is set in stone, but there’s still a chance that “The Incredibles 3” will happen someday.

Unfortunately, it looks like the timeline for that movie will likely be similar to the long gap between “The Incredibles” and “The Incredibles 2.”

“I would never rule it out,” Walker said. “And if the past is a prologue, it will be another 14 years, and a lot of people will probably need oxygen to make a third one.”

The reason “The Incredibles 2” took so long to make was because they were waiting for the story to be perfect.

In the EW interview, Bird indicated that this will also be the case for the potential “The Incredibles 3,” to keep.

However, he revealed that since “The Incredibles 2” had to overcome some major production hurdles, there are several plot lines he would like to explore in the future… either in “The Incredibles 3” or in another film.

“It’s like the ‘I Love Lucy’ episode when the candy piles up on the conveyor belt,” Bird explained of the production difficulties “The Incredibles 2” faced.

“This movie was like that. They took a year out of our schedule, so if an idea didn’t work quickly, you had to kill the darling and move on to the next one. And I killed like a city full of darlings.”

Even in the best-case scenario, fans will probably have to wait years and years before those darlings manifest again in a third “The Incredibles” movie.

Still, as long as Bird doesn’t completely dismiss the idea of “The Incredibles 3,” there’s hope.
