Who would have thought that behind the huge success of Tales of Arise as a promising new start for the franchise, this game was actually planned as a different IP? Yup, you’re absolutely right, so rather than purely being made as a new series, it turns out that Tales of Arise in its initial development process was almost made into a different game that involved the role of the Tales team as the main developer.Through interviews with the media denfaminicogamer, producer Yusuke Tomizawa and director Hirokazu Kagawa from Bandai Namco have shared various stories and interesting trivia about the game. When discussing the initial development process, the game at that time would only be titled “Arise” and focused on being a more innovative project. Because it was a very different project from the Tales series so far, the development team at the time weren’t sure if they should make it part of the franchise.
In the end Arise turned into Tales of Arise and this decision ended up bringing fresh air which made the franchise even more in the spotlight. A very interesting fact indeed and makes us wonder what would have happened if they had not made it into the new Tales series. Now that they’ve got a solid new foundation from gameplay design to graphic quality, now they’re sure to be able to develop a new series that has the potential to be even more superior in the future.
