Jonathan Majors arrested
Jonathan Majors, the actor who plays the villain in the upcoming Marvel movie Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania, has been arrested on charges of strangulation, assault and harassment in New York City.
The actor, who also stars opposite Michael B Jordan in the recently released boxing film Creed III, was involved in a domestic dispute with a 30-year-old woman on Saturday morning.
According to the New York Police Department, they received a 911 call from an apartment in the Chelsea neighborhood of Manhattan around 11am. When they arrived, they found the woman with minor injuries to her head and neck. She told them that she was assaulted by Majors, who was still at the scene. The police arrested Majors without incident and took him into custody. The woman was taken to a nearby hospital in stable condition.
Majors’ representative denied any wrongdoing by the actor and said that he was “completely innocent”. “He has done nothing wrong. We look forward to clearing his name and clearing this up,” the representative said in an email.
Majors is one of the fastest-rising stars in Hollywood. He first gained attention for his role in the independent film The Last Black Man in San Francisco in 2019. He then appeared in Spike Lee’s Da 5 Bloods, Netflix’s The Harder They Fall, and HBO’s Lovecraft Country, for which he received an Emmy nomination. He also stars in the Sundance film Magazine Dreams, which is set to be released in December.
Majors’ arrest comes just weeks after he presented an award at the Oscars with his Creed III co-star Jordan. His role as Kang the Conqueror in Ant-Man 3 is expected to be a major part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s future. He is also set to star in six other upcoming projects, including Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and The Man in My Basement.
The actor has not commented publicly on his arrest or the allegations against him. He is due to appear in court on April 7.
