DSLR level Photography in Smartphone
Smartphones Vs. DSLR, this debate has been going on since decades, we can experiment more with a DSLR Cameras, and we can attach more lenses to them. On the other hand, in the smartphone world, too, we have come very far; nowadays, we get so many smartphones with their own unique camera capabilities.
Still, the difference between a DSLR and a Smartphone Camera is huge. So, can Xiaomi counter this difference with its new concept? Can it replace a DSLR with its unique concept phone?
Well, Xiaomi has attempted something one-of-a-kind. It has launched a concept of one of a kind phone where you can use the Lens of a mirrorless camera right inside the phone.
And IAM not talking about the attachable lenses. There is a problem with those lenses. If you look at the camera of any phone, on top, you will find the glass used to protect the camera. Inside the glass, you will find the lenses, and behind those lenses, you will find the sensor.
So, the light has to pass through all those lenses to enter the sensor. Now, if we attach another lens on top of those lenses, it will require more effort for the light to enter the sensor. And what it leads to? SOFTER IMAGES! You no longer get sharp, high-quality images.
Xiaomi 12S Ultra Concept
But now Xiaomi has taken the first revolutionary step towards making a smartphone in par with an actual DSLR Camera. Xiaomi is working on a concept phone called 12S Ultra Concept.
The phone is being made in collaboration with LEICA (The Brand behind the production of high-end cameras and lenses). The specialty of this phone is a big sensor snugged directly on its camera module, without any lenses on top of that. Just a pure camera sensor!
Now, as I told you that the phone is being made in collaboration with LEICA, so, you will be able to attach the Leica M-Series Lenses on top of the Camera Module. This means you are using a Mirrorless Camera Lens on top of the phone. Just imagine the image quality you will get!
The phone will have a dedicated software application for clicking pictures using that camera sensor. Through that application, you will get full control of histogram, exposure control, and many other manual settings.
Keep in mind that you don’t have to keep the attachable Leica Lenses always with you to click pictures. You can click pictures in the usual ways using the main and ultrawide cameras. Just for DSLR level professional pictures using the special camera sensor, you will have to use the Leica M-Series Lenses.
So, what do you think about this concept? Will the smartphone make it to the mainstream smartphone market? We will have to see it in two ways. See, this concept is indeed targeting the Smartphones Market dedicated to Photography. People of that niche will indeed find it amusing and one of a kind.
But the second thing is that Xiaomi is not well known for its UI experience and software updates. At the end of the day, it is a smartphone and not a DSLR Camera, so Xiaomi will have to work on the UI experience and software updates for its users.
People will use it for other daily tasks like social media, Music streaming, Video streaming along with Photography. So, Xiaomi will have to make sure that the entire phone experience goes as smoothly and as glitch-free as possible.
Either way, we are excited about this one-of-a-kind smartphone concept, and we can’t wait to get our hands on it and test it out for our readers.
