In an interview with ‘EW’, the actor, already recovered from breaking both feet in ‘The Walking Dead’, teased that the Negan that we will see in ‘Dead City’, let’s remember, recently isolated, could look more like the old man Negan from the past: “I think the time apart will probably make it worse,” he said, “Negan has a chance to fall back into some old habits, because it’s all a coping mechanism for him, especially if he’s not with the group.”
“The group tamed him in many ways, and in order to fit in, he had to stop being who he was. And I think that … away from this group, it’s likely that he falls into some old traps and old behaviors,” he continued. .
“Look, it’s an apocalypse. We know how Negan has survived. We’ve seen him in the evolution of how he has survived and what he does to adapt to any situation. But away from people, he doesn’t do well,” he added. .
Negan being separated from his group and then reuniting with Maggie, with whom he doesn’t have the best relationship (although they did reconcile for a while), foreshadows something that will be troublesome.
“Look, we know he’s going to run away to New York,” he said.
“It’s him and Maggie, and there aren’t many people with him. So, if I do the math, he’s going to have problems. It’s going to be a bad combination for him,” he added.
The ‘Dead City’ spin-off will be a six-episode series that will take place a few years after the events of that somewhat nondescript ending to ‘The Walking Dead’ (the real one, not the alternative ‘TWD’ ending that doesn’t made the cut) and will follow Maggie and Negan as they explore a post-apocalyptic Manhattan, which has been cut off from the rest of the continent.
